Catalog Description.  Vector Spaces, Normed Spaces, Banach Spaces, Finite Dimensional Normed Spaces, Bounded Linear operators, Linear Functionals, Linear Operators and Functionals on Finite Dimensional Spaces, Dual Spaces, Inner Product Spaces and Hilbert Spaces, Riesz Representation Theorem, Orthonormal Sets and Sequences,Hilbert Adjoint Operator, Self-Adjoint, Unitary and Normal Operators, Fundamental Theorems for Normed and Banach Spaces (Hahn-Banach Theorem, Open Mapping Theorem, Closed Graph Theorem), Uniform Boundedness Principle, Strong and Weak Convergence, reflexivity.

Textbook. E. Kreyszig, Introductory Functional Analysis with Applications, John Wiley & Sons, 1989.

Evaluation Criteria. Two midterm examinations (30% each), one final examination (40%).

All of our previously scheduled exams have been cancelled due to Corona virus breaks.
